Abstract:   (44 Views)
Background and Objective: Journal Club is a classic method for empowering medical students, aiming to enhance critical thinking and improve evidence-based performance. Despite its importance, comprehensive studies on the quality of Journal Club sessions from students’ perspectives in Iran are limited. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of Journal Club sessions at Hamadan University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in the 2021–2022 academic year. A total of 65 students attending Journal Club sessions were selected via census from the Schools of Public Health, Modern Medical Sciences and Technologies, Medicine, and Dentistry. Data were collected using questionnaire, whose content validity was confirmed by faculty members and reliability was reported with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.87.
Findings: The overall mean quality of Journal Club sessions was 2.85 ± 1.19 out of 5, indicating a “good” level. The highest quality was observed in the domain of skills and presentation (3.14 ± 1), while the lowest quality was in problem-solving improvement (2.57 ± 1.25). The P-value for differences between means was 0.05.
Conclusions: Students rated the quality of the sessions as good. Considering the importance of Journal Club and the positive student perspectives, regular and purposeful sessions are recommended across all educational levels. Future studies may explore the effects of spiritual interventions or longitudinal research on students’ performance and adherence.
