Background and Objective: : Investigating the choice of work or continuing to higher education of students and the factors affecting it can play a vital role in improving the quality of education, increasing the motivation of students to continue their education, and find suitable job positions. This study aimed to investigate the choice of work or continuing to higher education among radiologic technology students at Shahroud University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: In this analytical cross-sectional study, 63 students and graduates of radiologic technology participated. The availability sampling method was used and the data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire containing 33 questions.
Findings: Of the total of 63 participants in this study, 59% (37 people) were women, and the studied population's average score was 17.33. About 87% (55 people) of students were interested in working rather than continuing education and 60% were interested in working in the MRI department. Among the factors influencing students' reluctance to continue their studies are the lack of research-oriented job positions, the fear of giving job positions, entering the job market quickly and earning money, and the lack of impact of a higher education degree on the future of employment and income.
Conclusion: Most radiology technology students prioritized having a job over continuing their studies. One of the important factors of this choice is the lack of career promotion in the field of radiology in case of continuing education, the suitable job market after graduation, the lack of familiarity of students with related master's courses, the personality and motivational factors of students, and the economic and social status of students and their families.
