Background:Patient education is the most important nurse’s role in patient-centered care and is part of their responsibility, but unfortunately, issue has been described meaningless. Increasing managers' insight into nurses' attitudes towards patient education will help them in management planning. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the challenges in nurse-patient interaction from the perspective of nurses in Babol educational and medical centers.

Research environment was hospitals affiliated with Babol University of Medical Sciences and research population and samples were nurses there. Participant’s selection was based on the purpose, snowball method and maximum diversity strategy. Data were collected through individual semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Granheim and Landman's (2004) content analysis. Data management was with MAXQDA10 software.

Findings:From data analysis,11 main categories and 4 subcategories were extracted, including: managerial challenges(lack of support from managers to meet educational needs, educational neglect),challenges related to nurses (lack of time due to high workload, lack of belief in education, lack of sufficient motivation), challenges related to patients(weak knowledge and ignorance of the patient, shaky belief, inappropriate patient physical and mental condition),organizational challenges(disproportion between number of patients and nurses, insufficient equipment, inappropriate education environment).

Conclusion:patient education challenges include managerial, organizational challenges, challenges related to patients and nurses, with managerial and nursing challenges being more tangible, so it’s necessary to align managers in this field and increase nurses educational skills.
