Comparing the Attitudes of Basic Science Medical Students and Clinical Students Towards Their Fields and Their Career Futures at Urmia University of Medical Sciences

Background and Objective: Worry about one's field of study has a severe negative impact on a student's mental health and academic performance, and this study aimed to compare the attitudes of basic science medical students with clinical students towards their field and their future careers at Urmia University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted using simple random sampling method on medical students of Urmia University of Sciences. To collect data, demographic information questionnaire and Jafari et al. attitude questionnaire were used. After collection, the data were entered into SPSS18 and analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics.
Findings: In this study, the results showed that the average score of attitude towards the field of study in the basic sciences group was 25.88 ± 4.34 and in the clinical group was 4.72 ± 24.54, and the average score of attitude towards the future of work in the basic sciences group was 18.73 ± 2.77 and in the clinical group was 3.03 ± 18.24. There was a significant relationship between gender and students' attitude towards the field of study(0.001)and between marriage and students' attitude towards the field of study (0.001). There was a significant relationship between gender and students' attitude towards the future of work (0.001)and between marriage and students' attitude towards the future of work (0.001).
Conclusions: The results showed that medical students are worried or anxious about their future and field of study. Since one of the important factors in education is having a passion and interest in learning, paying attention to this issue should be a priority in the planning of educational centers.
