BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Scientific Olympiads, with an emphasis on deep understanding of text contents, creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills, can help and reinforce societies to solve future problems. This study aimed to evaluate the role of the Fifth National Medolympiad in empowering and building loyalty from the appointees’ point of view.
METHODS: This cross sectional study was conducted in the summer of 2013. The study population were the candidates of the fifth national medolympiad among the medical universities around the country who were selected in the census as the study samples. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire made by the researcher and its validity and reliability were confirmed. Data were analyzed in SPSS18 software at a significance level of P<0.05.
FINDINGS: Out of the 222 appointees, the satisfaction level about the intrasectoral activities inside the university was 3±1.2 out of 5 score. The level of development in individual capacities was 3.5±1 and the level of creating loyalty was 3.9±1.1. There was a significant relationship between the academic type of the university and satisfaction rate about the university activities (P=0.000). There was a significant relationship between age, degree, academic course and the level of development in individual capacities (P=0.025 & r=-0.115), (P=0.000 & r=-0.131), (P=0.004). Also, there was a significant negative relationship between age, degree, academic course, and creating loyalty .
CONCLUSION: The performance of the fifth national medolympiad about intrasectoral activites inside the universities, was moderate, in developing the individual capacities was higher than the average, and in creating loyalty was almost high which needs improvement for some functions.
